Donald Trump and Elon Musk are acting irresponsibly and letting their egos get in the way of doing their real jobs. Trump was elected to lead the country, not to use his presidential bully pulpit to attack private companies like Tesla. Musk, the visionary who is running major companies like Tesla, SpaceX, and X, should be focusing on innovation—not picking fights online like a schoolyard bully. Instead, both are wasting time and influence on a public argument that helps no one.
This conflict reflects a deeper problem: political leaders interfering in business, and personal grudges pretending to be public policy. Musk should be focused on advancing technology. Trump should be focused on governing the country. But instead, they’re acting like middle schoolers, and the country is worse off because of it. Even worse, Trump’s threats against Tesla raise serious constitutional concerns. The Constitution (Article I, Section 9) bans what are called “bills of attainder,” which are laws that punish specific people or groups without a trial. Trump’s attacks on Musk aren’t laws, but using the power of the presidency to go after one company feels dangerously close to that line. This is pure gangsterism housed in the Oval Office. It sends an alarming message to business leaders: if you upset the Don (pun intended), your business could be next.
This fight is not just immature—it’s a distraction from real issues. Every moment spent attacking each other is time not spent protecting the economy or improving people’s lives. Good government empowers people. Bad leadership—like this—drags everyone down. Musk and Trump both have the potential to do great things, but only if they prioritize principle and policy over ego. America needs leaders who focus on progress, not petty feuds.
Drop the pissing contest, gentlemen, and get back to critical business.
